A Square Loyalty alternative for businesses with 2 to 5 locations

Square Loyalty costs from €39 + VAT per location each month in Ireland, so 3 locations start at €117 + VAT. Loyalty+ (loyaltyplus.app) Pro costs €39 a month for 2 stores, and Loyalty+ Growth costs €89 a month for up to 5 stores, VAT included. The catch: you connect Square yourself, and points arrive only when the sale carries the customer's phone number, email or Square customer ID.

How much does Square Loyalty cost for 2, 3 or 5 locations?

Square Loyalty (Square's own loyalty add-on) is priced per location, per month. The price depends on that location's loyalty visits in the month. In Ireland the bands are €39 (0–500 visits), €65 (501–1,500 visits) and €90 (1,501–10,000 visits), all plus VAT.

Loyalty+ Pro costs €39 a month for 2 stores and 1,000 customers. Loyalty+ Growth costs €89 a month for up to 5 stores and unlimited customers. With yearly billing, Pro is €390 and Growth is €890. Loyalty+ plan prices do not depend on visits.

About VAT: Loyalty+ prices include VAT. Square's Irish prices are plus VAT. At the Irish standard rate of 23%, Square's €39 + VAT comes to €47.97. The table shows Square's price both ways, so you can compare like for like.

All figures are euros per month for Ireland; "with VAT" adds 23% Irish VAT to Square's price. Each Square location has its own band. With 1 location, Square's lowest band is €39 + VAT (€47.97 with VAT) and Loyalty+ Pro is €39 with VAT included. A single shop with under 50 customers can use Loyalty+ Free.

In the UK, Square charges £25, £45 or £65 per location per month, and its page does not mention VAT.

What you get with Loyalty+

• No app for customers. They scan a QR code at the till with the phone camera. Their card opens in the phone browser.
• One plan for the whole group. Pro covers 2 stores. Growth covers up to 5. You do not count visits.
• Automatic points from Square payments (Pro and Growth). Points follow your rule (per visit, per unit or per amount spent) when the payment is linked to the customer's phone number, email or Square customer ID. You choose which store each Square location's points are recorded under.
• One QR code per store. The code on screen rotates, and a cooldown (60 minutes by default) stops repeat scans.

Where Square Loyalty is better

• It is built into Square. Square says you enrol and reward customers from your POS or Square Online, with no extra hardware or software. Loyalty+ needs a webhook set up by you, and it is not in the Square App Marketplace.
• Customers enrol at checkout with their phone number, and Square texts them when they earn points or a reward.
• Reports sit in your Square Dashboard. Square compares spend and visits for loyalty and non-loyalty customers.
• You pay by activity. A quiet location can stay in the €39 band.
• No customer limit is shown on Square's Irish pricing page. Loyalty+ Pro allows 1,000.
• Longer free trial: 30 days, against 14 days on Loyalty+.
• UK page only: Square lists an Apple Wallet pass and points on cash sales. Loyalty+ does not offer wallet passes.

What Loyalty+ does not do (yet)

• It does not offer wallet passes, referral rewards or birthday rewards.
• It does not email your customers.
• It cannot import customers or points from Square Loyalty.
• It has no separate staff logins. Staff use a PIN on the cashier terminal.

How to switch from Square Loyalty

1. Create a Loyalty+ account. You get a 14-day Pro trial with no card.
2. Add your stores, set your reward rule, and print each store's QR code.
3. On Pro or Growth, connect Square: in the Square Developer dashboard, create an app, open Webhooks, subscribe to payment.created and payment.updated, and paste the signature key into Loyalty+.
4. Ask staff to attach the customer's phone number, email or customer record to the sale. Without it, the customer scans the QR code.
5. Tell your customers about the new card. Turn Square Loyalty off on a date you choose, so one sale does not earn points twice.

Square points stay in Square, because Loyalty+ has no import. You can give new customers a welcome bonus (a Pro promotion) or add a starting balance by hand.

Can I use Loyalty+ with Square?

Yes, on Pro and Growth. You create an app in the Square Developer dashboard, subscribe to the payment.created and payment.updated webhooks, and paste the signature key into Loyalty+. Do I have to stop using Square Loyalty?

No. The two can run side by side while you switch. Both would award points for the same sale, so choose a date to turn Square Loyalty off.

What if a customer pays without giving a phone number?

If the payment or its order is linked to a Square customer profile and Loyalty+ has read access to your Square account, Loyalty+ reads the phone number or email from that profile. A payment with no customer attached cannot be matched, and no points arrive from it. The customer can scan the store's QR code instead.

Can each location have its own QR code?

Yes. Each store has its own QR code. For Square payments you choose which Loyalty+ store each Square location's points are recorded under. Locations you have not mapped go to your first store.

How many customers can I have?

Loyalty+ Pro allows 1,000 customers and 2 stores. Loyalty+ Growth allows unlimited customers and up to 5 stores. Customers created from Square payments count toward the limit.
